The Prime Minister's senior adviser last night confirmed that he was looking to step down at the end of the year, pointing to a blog post from January in which he said he wanted to be "within a year largely redundant". It comes after a civil war in which director of communications Lee Cain was forced to resign. "It's very good news," said one veteran Tory. "The PM will be the Boris that won the election and was a successful Mayor. The poison will be gone from No 10." One MP said it was "a game-changing moment for the administration", adding: "I've no doubt most MPs will breathe a sigh of relief and the two going will see a short of vigour into the Tory backbenches, who will be fully behind the PM." "I just hope it's for real - maybe this is an opportunity for a fresh start -put 2020 behind us," said a former minister.
