Why WhatsApp is making a new app for these specific users

WhatsApp is making a new app for these users

WhatsApp may be working on a standalone app for Apple’s iPad users. As per a report from WABetaInfo, a popular WhatsApp change tracking website, references of WhatsApp for iPad have been spotted on the latest version of the WhatsApp desktop app.

Facebook-owned WhatsApp has recently updated its desktop and web clients, where references to icons for the iPad may have been added. However, the WABetaInfo report does not mention whether WhatsApp for iPad will come in the form of a dedicated app or will it just be a client application like WhatsApp Web. So, it could either work as a WhatsApp Web or as a standalone app since Apple is also selling iPads with cellular support. The former option works in a similar fashion as the Windows and macOS desktop versions.

There is no official WhatsApp app for iPad at the moment, but one can always download third-party apps from the App store that makes the instant messaging service accessible on the tablet. The experience isn’t noteworthy, though.

Meanwhile, WhatsApp has been introducing a series of new features in the recent past. After a year of testing, the messaging service recently rolled out its ‘Delete for Everyone’ feature allows its over one billion users to revoke their messages in case they sent those to a wrong person or group. The feature will allow users to delete specific messages which they have sent to either a group or an individual chat. ‘Delete for Everyone’ is now available for Android and iOS users.

As per the WhatsApp FAQ page, the feature will be particularly useful if you sent a message to the wrong chat or if the message you sent contains a mistake. Messages you successfully delete for everyone will be replaced with “This message was deleted” in your recipients’ chats. Similarly, if you see “This message was deleted” in a chat, it means that the sender deleted their message for everyone.

You can only delete messages for everyone for up to seven minutes after sending. Once seven minutes have passed, there is no way to delete messages for everyone.

The instant messaging app also confirmed group voice calls in its latest beta version of WhatsApp for Android in October. According to WaBetaInfo, the 2.17.70 iOS update has hidden references to group calls. “There are a lot of hidden references about group voice calls, but there is only one reference to group video calls. So, group video calls are partially confirmed at the moment,” WaBetaInfo tweeted recently. It was earlier reported that WhatsApp was working on a group voice calls and could release the feature next year. Facebook already has a similar feature on Messenger.

The newest beta version of WhatsApp for Android also has several updates, including a smaller app size and a feature that would notify your friends when you change your number. According to technology website Teknepolis, one major update is that when you change your phone number in WhatsApp, your contacts would receive notification of the update. The feature would work every time you change your phone number.

WhatsApp has also announced advanced features for improved group management, including a tool that will prevent the group creator to be deleted from the group by other administrators. The administrators on WhatsApp groups will also be able to choose if other participants can modify the subject of the group, its icon, and its description.

As per reports, WhatsApp is also working on a new feature within its apps that will let users send and receive money. WhatsApp Pay feature is currently under the testing stage and may go official in India later this year. Apparently, WhatsApp Pay will support UPI-based payment services.
